Of Levelling The Score

Admittedly I've gone a bit lameo on what I choose as my quote for this session as it is simply a TV show/song title.

"ALL THE SMALL THINGS" All those who know what I mean will be able to find this by typing that into http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/ search engine to find the show in question. But for those who cba/don't have a spare hour really briefly here is a plot synopsis:

Man leaves wife because he "thinks there is more out there" in the shape of a stereotypically blonde woman (though to be fair the woman he left was also blonde). The show is named after the Blink 182 song (available via a search engine e.g. Google), with which their son is slightly creepily obsessed. There's more to it than that, but I cba to type it all.

Now I don't want to be a traitor to my gender or anything but I do think they could have been more imaginative. Why must men always be portayed in such a negative light? The show could have had exactly the same impact by switching the lead roles. Women are not saints and I actually get a bit bored of us being portrayed such. Personally intentionally or not, I think girls have a tendency to be crueller than boys and I bet I could find people who would back me up on that.

I guess it's more that it makes the show ever so slightly predictable. If they'd just thought to have a little more creativity then it would leave me feeling more optimistic about the rest of the series.

One could argue I should just accept the devilising of the male gender like a good little female, but I say no. I guess I just can't help feeling sorry for the large proportion of people out there who are actually...well...erm....nice people.

Most are y'know.

Of Seeing into the Future…

Which let’s face it, would be a talent. Today my quote is brought to you from "Reveal" magazine, the horoscope section.

Now personally, I am not entirely sure I believe in them, I don’t think it’s possible than the answers to life lie in simply looking at the sky. I do it all the time and I am not the world genius in everything yet. But they are good for a laugh, which is why today I found myself reading the horoscope section in this week’s "Reveal". Possibly the funniest 10 minutes so far this week. What I found particularly amusing was the way Mystic Mike (that’s not his name, I just like the alliteration) wrote his horoscopes.

Here is an example from the Taurus horoscope: "A tree what’s more, is happy to be a tree. It doesn’t secretly want to be a fish."

This goes above and beyond the normal vagueness in horoscopes which usually say "This week an opportunity will arise." Or something that is equally likely to happen. For example today I had the opportunity to do my German homework in my free periods. I didn’t take it; I chose "Q", "NME" and obviously "Reveal" instead.

This then leads to the question, what is Mystic Mike on about? After reading all the horoscopes several times (some of them really were that odd), I have reached these simple conclusions about the week according to the sky:

Aries – Should smile more and stop complaining.
Taurus – Don’t work for something you’re never going to get.
Gemini – Learn to listen, you’re misunderstanding people.
Cancer – People can sometimes lie.
Leo – People don’t always get on with each other, deal with it.
Virgo – You’ve been working hard recently and will soon get a gold star!
Libra – Hang in there and remember everything takes time.
Scorpio – You think you want to be famous, but you don’t.
Capricorn – Go back to bed, it will solve all your problems.
Sagittarius – Sometimes it’s simpler to walk away.
Pisces – Ignore people who are pricks, you’ll feel better.
Aquarius – You think too much, this is good and bad, right now it’s bad.

So basically the two page spread could have been condensed into something far easier to understand.

Mystic Mike says: CHILLAX!

In conclusion: Today’s quote is "It [a tree] doesn’t secretly want to be a fish."

Apparently life will be better for all of us if we remember that...

Of Introductions

Dear all my readers (which probably comprises of me and me alone),

The world is full of people who say things. Sometimes people like to tell people what others have said. This is commonly known as quoting them. Some quotes are rubbish, some are good and some are just plain weird. Hence I am going to make an attempt to enlighten the world on the quotes that are out there.

Feel free to give me quotes that you think are good ones, I might ignore you and I might not. Who knows?

P.S. All my titles will start with "Of…" because that is the way I am going to do it. There will no questioning the oddity of this.
